Ancient Nyingma Sanctuary of Saldang

Founded over five centuries ago in the heart of Saldang village, Samye Choling Monastery represents one of the most significant and beautifully preserved examples of the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism in the entire Dolpo region. This sacred sanctuary welcomes visitors into a world of profound spiritual beauty, where they can discover an extraordinary collection of sacred statues including the past Buddha Dipankar, the historical Shakyamuni Buddha, and the future Buddha Maitreya, with the beloved Guru Rinpoche holding the place of honor at the very heart of the shrine. The monastery's serene and peaceful atmosphere is further enhanced by its remarkable walk-through stupa and traditional prayer wheel, creating a harmonious environment that serves as a perfect haven for meditation, reflection, and spiritual renewal for both devoted monks and visiting seekers from around the world.

Best Time to Visit

Plan your adventure for Spring (March–May) to enjoy blooming rhododendrons and clear skies, or Autumn (September–November) for stable weather and stunning views. Winter (December–February) brings harsh, snowy conditions, making trekking challenging. Monsoon (June–August) has less rain due to the rain-shadow effect, but trails can still be difficult.
